Again with this "Sessions" ride!
I think this was year number 4 for this ride. I don't know what a mountain biking season would be without it. Each time it is hard, and each time its hard to imagine not doing it again. Dan and I were alone this year, everyone else either out of pocket or begged off.
We got a leisurely start at 8:30, rode up over the City Creek shoreline and past the radio towers. It was hot by the time we were climbing up Skyline drive above the Bountiful B and the road took it out of both of us. I guess it helps to know what your in for because we never considered turning back -- maybe it was knowing there would be no snow to contend with this year
At the top of the Sessions ridge I remembered that there was still a hike-a-bike to get over a little ways down. Is it good or bad to forget about the hard parts?
Turning off and heading towards the Lookout Peak ridge our spirits lifted. It is a hard section but has everything about mountain biking that we both love -- tiny little singletrack, huge views, tight root sections, short gut busting climbs that appear out of nowhere and required grunts and screams to clear. We were so jazzed when we finally hit the ridge and the Salt Lake Valley appeared. Oh man, it was nice to know it was nothing but down from there on.
